June 5th 2018 Skipper Report
Well folks, it is that time of the year again the Weipa Fishing Classic is upon us and expectations are high, so where do you go and what to target.
For those that are shore based areas close by to look at are the likes of Evans Landing jetty where recently there has been some nice fish caught off there including some good grunter. The grunter like the turn of the tide as it starts to come in and nice soft baits like peeled prawn, squid and fish strips should attract some action. Other areas to look are around the Mission Bridge, Red Beach, or for those who wish to venture a little further afield maybe Pennefather or Jayne Creek near Marpoon.
For those with boats there are just too many choices, for whom who wishes to fish the estuaries, water temps have stayed up and there are some good barra still around. Fish with either live mullet or lures and target the run off drains. All systems from the Hey, Embley, Mission or even up at Marpoon are producing good fish.
If you plan to go offshore there are acres of tuna just about everywhere, metal jigs are all that is needed to cast into the schools where a hook up is virtually immediate. There has been some reasonable mackeral hanging around the leeds, these fish are of good size though proving alittle elusive. Bottom fishos should look at targeting around the reefs, tusk fish which recently have been of good numbers and of reasonable size, crabs are probably the best for them while if it is a nice coral trout you seek maybe get some live mullet or herring from the vast schools that are presently out there and look for the deeper reefy areas.
Tackleworld hopes everyone has a good and safe weekend and enjoys the festivities of the comp.
