Weipa Fishing Hot Spots
North Side in Weipa
1. Under the Bridge
This is one of the best spots for land based fishing. There is a large amount of live Mullet in this area. The target fish in this spot are Barramundi, Queenfish, Fingermark and Black Jewfish.
2. Pine River
Pine River is a good spot lure fishing. However, this area is a catch and release zone only. The target fish are Barramundi, Queenfish and Blue Salmon.
3. Red Beach
During high tide this is a good spot for land based bait fishing. If fishing from a boat at Red Beach, head down stream and cast under the mangroves, there are many snags in this area. The target fish are Queenfish and King Salmon
4. Andoom Creek
Andoom Creek is another great spot. The spot is great for Mudcrab, however is well known for it's Crocodile inhabitants, so care should be taken. The target fish are Barramundi, Queenfish and Mangrove Jack.
5. Eunigan Creek
Eunigan Creek is another great spot. However the creek is quite small, so it is recommended to only try this spot during high tide. The target fish are Barramundi, Queenfish and King Salmon.
South Side Fishing Spot
1. Old Evanslanding Boat Ramp
This is one of the best spots in the area. There is a pontoon which is helpful for jigging. The target fish are Barramundi, Fingermark, Queenfish, Grunter, Golden Trevally and at night, squid.
2. Gonbung Point
This is a great beach fishing spot during high tide. The north side has Mangrove trees that have great snags.
3. Roberts Creek
This is a great spot during high tide, during low tides you may get stuck. So it is advised that you check the tides before heading out. The target fish are Golden Trevally and Queenfish.
This is the closest Reef to Weipa. The best gear to use in this spot is Jig and Popper with Soft Bait. The target fish are Tuskfish and Coral Trout.
5. The Pole
To get to this spot you need to head down Hey River, there will be a big boat close to the Pole. Alot of fish are found around this area. Jigging works well in this area. The target fish are Queenfish and Mackerel.
6. First Creek
This spot is a quite wide creek. You can access this creek at low and high tides. The target fish are Barramundi, Golden Trevally and Queenfish.
7. Fifth Creek
This is one of the best spots for boat fishing. The creek entrance is a great spot. However, during low tides you may get stuck. So it is advised that you check the tides before heading out. The target fish are Barramundi, King Salmon and Queenfish.
