Fishing Report 30 July 2018

On the cape, in the last 2 weeks we have been blessed with mostly light winds and good sea conditions and this has allowed many anglers to test their skills both in the estuaries and offshore.

The boys from Weipa Sportsfishing have been bottom bouncing and trolling the areas around false Pera and Westminster with good results. Quality Coral Trout, Fingermark and Tuskers have made their clients very happy while Long Tail Tuna, Grey and Spanish Mackerel have fallen to well-presented lures in the same area.

The Barra have been a bit quiet but some quality King Salmon have been attracted to hard body lures and soft plastics in and around the drains at low tide. These fish are sitting in very shallow water, 3 to 400 ml and can often be sight cast. A few of the local billfish legends have been out chasing these prize fish and I should have some detailed reports on their efforts next week.

Just a reminder that the Queensland Groper (pictured) is a totally protected species and must be released. Please dont destroy what you came to enjoy!

Until next week, bent rods and tight lines.
