Fishing Report 23 July 2018

What a sensational difference a few days can make with some great weather conditions allowing all the keen anglers in the Far North an opportunity to put their skills to the test back out on the water ways. The influx of visitors to our region at this time of year is tremendous, many dropping a line in as both the seasoned and beginner anglers try to their luck at pulling in the big one! With our visitors in mind, if you have friends or family travelling to the region please share our Facebook page as we aim to keep our followers updated with the latest in road report conditions to ensure visitors to our region (and locals alike) are travelling safely in the North.

As previously mentioned, the Billfish season is now upon us and huge congratulations to Emmy Roberts for boating the first Sailfish of “the season “. Emmy is one of our very skilled junior anglers and has a great natural ability for fishing that we all admire. Great work Emmy, keep them coming – we look forward to seeing what’s on your hook next!

Maddie McCulkin escaped the winter chill in Brisbane to spend some time in Weipa with friends and family and boated this lovely Coral Trout (pictured) in recent trip offshore, good work Maddie we have no doubt you were the envy of family and friends. Off the back of this, our hot tip for the week would be that Mackerel and Tuna are in an abundance right now and have fallen to well-presented lures and or jigs from 3 mile to 9 mile off Pera.

Dave Newman (Weipa Fishing Adventures) along with Gary and Josh Hilton fished the area around Billy’s Lagoon with very good results. Saratoga and Barra to 60cm we’re caught and released to fight another day. These fish fell to soft plastic Boom Baits, Top Water Frogs and the Old Dog Guttermaster’s.

Always remember the friendly team at Tackle World Weipa are here to assist you with your every need in our great region and we are open daily from 7am to 6.30pm for your convenience.

Until next week, bent rods and tight lines.
