Fishing Report 2 July 2018
Another financial year ends and with the new year around the corner we are pleased to announce we have some exciting new lure products coming soon to our Tackleworld Weipa store. The brands including Jackson, Athlete and River to Sea lures as well as the new range of biodegradable soft plastic lures from our friends at Shimano.
Back to the fishing where the offshore reefs have produced some excellent Fingermark and Tuskers for those brave enough to venture out in the less than ideal conditions. Tuna have been hit and miss, there one day and gone the next but some were spotted near the 4th beacon which makes them accessible to all.
Crab catches have slowed a little of late however persistence should result in a feed. Barra have slowed a little but top water lures in the drains and on the flats in very shallow water have produced good results. The 110 cm specimen pictured was caught and released by local legend Chris Beck in the Kirk River recently, quality fish Chris.
The Wenlock River has provided some persistent anglers with good quality and size Black Jewfish of late. Neap tides with vibes around the deep holes and rock bars will produce results but patience is required! The Billfish Season is almost upon us so remember to check you gear so you are ready to go when we get a weather window.
Until next week, bent rods and tight lines.
