Fishing Report 18 June 2018

Another Weipa Fishing Classic has been successfully run and one hearty congratulations to all the winners and participants. A great weekend all round with entertainment everywhere you looked! Big shout out to those who came in and seen the team at Tackle World Weipa for last minute items and congratulations to Jahred Vick winner of our Tackle World Weipa merchandise giveaway for June.

Estuary Fishing has slowed in recent weeks with the sudden drop in water temperature but Queenfish and huge GTs have been active around the mouth of Hey River and around the Mission River bridge. Recent post on our Facebook page illustrates just how big these GTs are growing with our very own Dylon Roberts snagging a 60lb, 1.13 metre long GT which he won the Weipa Fishing Classic Open Competition with.

On Saturday, I ventured out to Duyfkin Point with Shimano Promotions guru Leroy Horton and Tackle World Weipa staffer Scott Walker. Bottom fishing produced cod and tuskers and on the surface we hooked Tuna with Scott (pictured) getting his very first Long Tail. However, in an endeavour to catch a Tuna on light line, Leroy got spooled and I for one could not stop laughing, you can lead a horse to water!

The pelagic fishing should pick up this week with the new moon and increased tidal movement so keep a watch for surface bust ups while out on the Bluewater. Estuary fishing should be at its best in the late afternoon with well-presented lured and live baits being the best options presently.

Lastly, if you havent visited our Facebook page, jump on and give us Like to follow all the latest in big hooks and road reports as we bring to you all the most relevant updates for locals and those travelling abroad our great region.

Until next week , bent rods and tight lines.
