Fishing Report 11 June 2018

Weipa was buzzing over the weekend as the annual Weipa Fishing Classic tournament had kicked off. Reports last week had gauged there were close to 2,000 entries of keen fisherman, woman and children taking to the water for the competition. The atmosphere was electric as catch's were made, laughs were shared and winners were announced. Huge thank-you to everyone who came in and seen the team at Tackleworld Weipa over your stay, we hope you like your new fishing accessories!

As for local hot spots and what species are on the move; Mud Crabs have been on the active in recent weeks with good reports coming from the Hey and Emberly systems around Weipa. Please remember to tag your pots and floats and be aware of bag limits, we want our Crabs around for many years to come. With the water temperature dropping over the last few weeks the Barra have slowed down but will still be most active mid to late afternoon on the flats in the shallow warmer water. Some good Grunter have also been taken around the beach areas at Napranum and also Mappoon.

The winds have dropped off a little this week and the Bluewater fishing has been accessed by many anglers. Lee, Jack, Josh and Nick from Weipa Sportfishing have stretched the arms of their clients on Tuna, Mackerel, GTs and Queenfish off False Pera through to Thud Point. The usual bottom dwellers have been a little quiet but with the tides slowly improving; Fingermark, Trout and Tuskers should be on the chew this weekend.

Until next week, bent rods and tight lines and please dont destroy what you came to enjoy!
