Skippers Report for this week -

Sadly water temps have dropped and the fish are taking their time to adjust.

Offshore, there is plenty of action with Tuna schools keeping anglers happy although Sharks can be a problem at times. Mackeral are also plentiful throw in some Cobia, Queenfish or Trevally and it is happy times.

On the reefs those falling water temps have had an effect however persistance will pay off with some nice Fingermark, Coral Trout or Tusk Fish.

Up in the estuaries the Barra have slowed but they are still there all that is needed is patience and many casts to gain a response. There will be a bite time most days, it is just a matter of capitalizing on it when it happens.

Again another excellent weeks fishing with the spring tides delivering some great Barra fishing. Plenty of fish to be found however mostly on the smaller size although there have also been those few exceptional ones to keep interests high. Jacks, Fingermark and Salmon are also mixing with the Barra and throw in the ever present Queenies just to keep the action coming.

Offshore reef fishing has been exceptional with some very nice Trout, Fingermark, Tuskfish and Cod making up the main bags.

On the pelagic scene Mackeral seem to be increasing in numbers along with schools of Tuna, some lovely Trevally, big Cobia those ever present Queenies just on a larger scale than those in the estuaries and it is happy days for the anglers.

Hi All,

It is great to be back in Weipa and already into the charters with some fantastic fishing at hand presently. Up in the creeks and estuaries the Barra are on the chew with some excellent results like Tony had up from Griffith NSW, who bought his two grandsons Simon and Anthony with him. Over three days they managed to account for some 170 Barra thrown in were some Jacks, Fingermark, Salmon, Cod, Queenfish and some other species provided them with some spectacular angling.
Offshore it is all happening too with some excellent reef fish on the go. Lots of Coral Trout, Tusk Fish, Fingermark are making up the main stay of the catch while pelagics like Tuna, Mackeral, Queenies, Cobia, Trevallies and also a few Black Marlin one of which was around 90 Kg tagged and Sailfish have also been encountered.
Along the shore line Barra are hanging around the rocky out crops up and down the coast throw in some Queenies, Threadfin Salmon plus quite a few other species and it is happy angling for those who like to toss a lure or cast a fly.
